As our opening game of 2017 draws closer, we thought it would be a good time to catch up with two Buccaneers who won’t be pulling on the black and yellow this season after making the jump to league hockey. Mark Higson left us for his second stint in NIHL2, this time with the Bradford Bulldogs and Carl Price made the somewhat shorter journey to the Blackburn Hawks in NIHL1.

End of Season Review
Our resident web article writer has been absent for the past couple of weeks so here is our delayed end of season roundup!
The big news is that we lost out in the Ice Hockey Summer Classic Final to the Grimsby Stormers at Ice Sheffield. Despite going in front twice early in the game, the first period ended 7-2 to Grimsby and we just weren’t able to pull it back, the final score 13-6 to the Stormers.

Buccs to Face Stormers in Final After Semi-final Thrillers
Due to a scheduling error, Kingston City Knights are unable to ice a team for the scheduled semi-final against the Buccaneers. The other semi-final was another tense affair, with the Ice Tigers being unable to ice a team, meaning the Stormers join the Buccaneers in the final. It promises to be a cracking game, with the Buccs coming out on top in a 5-4 thriller in the last game of the group stage.
Kingston will now face the Buccs in a friendly game at Blackburn on August 20th, 6pm Faceoff.
Game Cancellation
Unfortunately the home game against Tyneside Jesters scheduled for July 23rd has been cancelled. The Buccs are next in action on August 7th at home to the Grimsby Stormers in their Summer Classic round-robin game. Faceoff at 6pm.
NEW BUILDING, OLD HABITS FOR BUCCANEERS
Saturday 9th July saw the Buccaneers travel down to Cardiff to take on old friends and rivals, the Cardiff Demons. Off the back of wins against Sheffield Ice Tigers and Don Valley Vikings, the Buccs knew the Demons were going to be an entirely different proposition and took a strong team down to Wales.

Buccs Secure Top-Two Finish
With a comprehensive 20-2 victory over the Sheffield Ice Tigers on Sunday, the Buccs secured a top-two finish in the round-robin stage of the Summer Classic.

Saturday 14th May saw the Buccaneers travel to Grimsby to take on the Stormers in the fourth game of the Summer Classic. Home and away wins over Kingston City Knights and a victory and Ice Sheffield against the Ice Tigers meant the Buccs were heading into this as unbeaten league leaders. The Stormers were unbeaten themselves after their only game – a 5-3 win over the Knights at Hull Arena.

Buccaneers Top the Summer Classic
Sunday 24th April saw the Buccaneers play host to the Kingston City Knights in their second meeting of the Summer Classic. The first game saw the Buccs run out 13-4 winners, but with the Knights out for revenge, this one promised to be a much tighter affair.

The second game of the Summer Classic League campaign took the Buccaneers over the Pennines to Sheffield to face the Ice Tigers. After a 10-10 thriller in Blackburn last August, both teams had points to prove.

On Saturday 2nd April, the Buccaneers made the trip down the M62 to take on Summer Classic rivals, Kingston City Knights. Kingston had sent a strong message to other teams in the competition with two convincing victories over the Sheffield Ice Tigers so the Buccaneers knew they were going to be in for a tough game.
