End of Season Review

Our resident web article writer has been absent for the past couple of weeks so here is our delayed end of season roundup!

The big news is that we lost out in the Ice Hockey Summer Classic Final to the Grimsby Stormers at Ice Sheffield. Despite going in front twice early in the game, the first period ended 7-2 to Grimsby and we just weren’t able to pull it back, the final score 13-6 to the Stormers.

Congratulations to everyone involved with the Stormers on their win, especially captain Mike Bratley who was playing his last game before retiring from rec hockey – a nice way to sign off!

We’d also like to thank Jimi Drinkall and the Sheffield Ice Tigers for arranging the tournament, we’re looking forward to next year already!

The week after the final, we travelled to Deeside to take on old rivals the Flintshire Phantoms where we went down 10-5.

That rounded off another season for the Buccaneers. We played plenty of games, 17 in total, winning 10 and losing 7. We scored 131 goals and conceded 103, finishing with a positive goal difference of +28.

Thanks to everyone who has supported us this year, especially those who have helped with off-ice duties – without you giving up your time we simply wouldn’t be able to play games. Special mention to Shane Puxty who has provided almost play-by-play Twitter updates for the majority of our games this year, we appreciate the support!

We now look forward to our 10th Anniversary season in 2016/17. If you’re interested in joining the Buccaneers, please get in touch with either Michael Walsh or Adam McArdle via Facebook.
