Buccs Head to Flintshire for Season Opener
The Blackburn Buccaneers will kick off the 2017-2018 season by renewing rivalries with the Flintshire Phantoms. The two clubs have had a good relationship for a number of years now and it’s always a welcome fixture in the calendar with varied results over the years. With both teams having their fair share of success, we expect another close, hard-fought game this time round.
The game will take place at Deeside Leisure Centre on Sunday 26th November. Face-off is at 20.00

BUCCS SUFFER REVERSE AT THE HANDS OF ICE TIGERS
The last two weekends have brought back-to-back defeats for the Buccaneers in this year’s Ice Hockey Summer Classic campaign.
Firstly, the Buccs took on the Sheffield Ice Tigers on 14th May. After defeating the Yorkshire side 6-4 away from home, the Buccs were hoping to get more points on the board in this one. That’s not how it panned out though as a very close game resulted in Sheffield reversing that home defeat, leaving Blackburn with a 6-4 win of their own.

Phantoms Complete the Double Over The Buccs
Sunday saw the Buccaneers hosted Flintshire at Blackburn Arena in the return fixture from our trip to Deeside earlier in the year. That game finished 10-1 to the Phantoms so the Buccs were under no illusions that this was going to be tough. Especially with only 4 defencemen and 8 forwards facing a full Flintshire bench.

Buccs Tame The Tigers
The Buccs opened the Puckstop.com Summer Classic with a hard fought 6-4 victory over the Sheffield Ice Tiger. Starting the game with a short bench, it was backs to the wall for over half the match, as captain Michael Walsh was ejected for a very tame 3rd-man-in penalty early in the 2nd period. However the two lines skated hard right to the final buzzer and held on for the victory.
Buccs Suffer Heavy Loss To Phantoms
The first game of the Buccs season saw them travel down to M56 to North Wales to take on old friendly rivals, the Flintshire Phantoms. Traditionally, games between the two sides are close and hard-fought affairs but only the latter would apply this time around.
Buccaneers Defeat Welsh Immigrants 100-0
The Buccaneers went to Wales on Sunday (which won’t be possible when we BUILD THE WALL) and played the best hockey ever, seriously you should have seen the hockey they played it was awesome. Anyone who says we didn’t beat the Phantoms 100-0 is FAKE NEWS.
Catch-Up with Higson and Price ahead of Season Opener
As our opening game of 2017 draws closer, we thought it would be a good time to catch up with two Buccaneers who won’t be pulling on the black and yellow this season after making the jump to league hockey. Mark Higson left us for his second stint in NIHL2, this time with the Bradford Bulldogs and Carl Price made the somewhat shorter journey to the Blackburn Hawks in NIHL1.

End of Season Review
Our resident web article writer has been absent for the past couple of weeks so here is our delayed end of season roundup!
The big news is that we lost out in the Ice Hockey Summer Classic Final to the Grimsby Stormers at Ice Sheffield. Despite going in front twice early in the game, the first period ended 7-2 to Grimsby and we just weren’t able to pull it back, the final score 13-6 to the Stormers.

Buccs to Face Stormers in Final After Semi-final Thrillers
Due to a scheduling error, Kingston City Knights are unable to ice a team for the scheduled semi-final against the Buccaneers. The other semi-final was another tense affair, with the Ice Tigers being unable to ice a team, meaning the Stormers join the Buccaneers in the final. It promises to be a cracking game, with the Buccs coming out on top in a 5-4 thriller in the last game of the group stage.
Kingston will now face the Buccs in a friendly game at Blackburn on August 20th, 6pm Faceoff.
