New Year – Same Ugly Faces

Firstly, happy new year to all of our players, families, friends and opponents up and down the country.

We closed out 2018 by welcoming the Riverside Raiders to Blackburn for a challenge scrimmage. The game was keenly contested by two teams who showed no sign of Christmas over-indulgence. The score at the end of 3 running clock periods was Buccaneers 5-6 Raiders. MVP for the Buccs was Hudson Nuttall who bagged his second MVP in as many games and for the Raiders it was Mike Teinert who capped a battling performance with a lovely tip-in goal. Thanks to Riverside for loaning us a netminder for the game whilst our own Glen Rattray spends some time in his native South Africa.

Just before Christmas, we had our team Christmas night out where the 2018/19 captaincy team was announced by coach Mark Higson. For this season, the Captain was voted by the players, with Higson selecting the alternates. After the votes were counted, it was announced that Michael Walsh would return for his 8th season as club captain and Simon Pickering and Chris Beesley would retain the ‘A’s.

We’d also like to thank everyone who supported our Christmas appeal for the Blackburn Foodbank. A tremendous amount of food was delivered to the foodbank the week before Christmas and all of the staff and volunteers were extremely grateful!

As we move into 2019, the club has plenty to be excited about. We return to the Howie’s Hockey Tape UK Ice Hockey Summer Classic and look forward to renewing rivalries with Flintshire Phantoms, Wyre Seagulls and Riverside Raiders as well as taking on newcomers Shropshire Huskies. We hope to see as many possible at Blackburn supporting the team.
